This interview continues from Part 1.
Both are Day-Date models. This is the first yellow gold Day-Date I bought and this one is a custom white gold Day-Date. It is a diamond custom called bustdown. After getting these two I have not bought any more watches because I am truly satisfied with just these. Especially this gold Day-Date is a model I have been wearing for ten years and I never get tired of it and it still feels great to wear. I have a clear preference and I like this size. I think 36mm has the most beautiful proportions. I am quite sensitive to visual things so I think this is the prettiest and if it gets any bigger it does not look as nice. It is like a kind of golden ratio.

Of course I have thought about buying other models. I considered getting a Submariner or a rose gold model but if I bought rose gold I thought I might get tired of it later. If I bought a Submariner with a blue dial the model itself is very pretty but if my shoes are red for example... in hip-hop matching colors is important so it might look a bit strange. I kept thinking about things like that. In the end I feel like I would always come back to these two models so I did not buy others. I considered the overall picture.
I have never managed the inside of the watch. I just wipe them. I am told I wear them very cleanly. I once considered getting them polished but when I took them in they said not to because they were already so clean. I do not really set the time accurately.

Except when I take my dog for a walk I wear them almost all the time. When I go out without them I feel empty. Honestly a Rolex is similar to a ring or necklace. For example a necklace has no function but people still wear it. In the world of jewelry having some weight can be a little uncomfortable but I think it is about enjoying that feeling. The feeling of having tens of millions of won on your neck or finger. In a society where everyone says it is hard to make a living I was one of those people and my family was basically ruined. There was no hope or possibility but now I am someone who owns something worth a fortune. That is how it feels.
Not necessarily. I did not choose the name Daytona because it reminded me of something specific. I was just thinking about what to name the company and it came to mind. When you hear Daytona you think of various things. It could be the Rolex Daytona or the Daytona racing event or even the old racing game. There was also a song called

Honestly I did not think deeply about it at the time. It was a free concert and a small launch event and we decided to give a surprise gift. I thought it would be fun to give the guys watches. I remember how happy they looked when they received them. For us Illionaire was kind of an icon of Rolex so it felt natural and obvious to do it. At the concert we said “We have prepared a special gift for these guys today. Is there anything you want?” and Changmo said he wanted a Rolex. He really wanted one and did not expect us to actually prepare it. It was touching and fun to see their reactions when we gave them the Rolexes. That was exactly what we intended and we wanted to do something special for them. Because things like that do not happen often in this scene. Companies do not usually give luxury watches just for signing a contract so it was a proud and special event for us too.
That is right. In ‘Connection’ Meta hyung sang the hook. It was the day of the music video shoot and we gave him a Rolex as a surprise. I remember he was really surprised. “Huh? Why are you giving this to me?” That was the feeling. At that time we were confident. We were sure the song would do well and that many people would sing along to the hook and we would succeed. Since that was going to happen we felt we should give Meta hyung a gift worthy of that. If we had calculated things like the cost of the music video, The cost of Meta hyung’s watch, Production costs, Average streaming revenue, We might have decided it was too much to give him the gift. But we were not those kinds of people. What we felt was just energy. We believed things would go well and that our time would come so we were already enjoying it. The Rolex symbolized that confidence.

That is right. It has been about ten years since then. But even now if you listen to hip-hop music Rolex is still mentioned. I think it is holding up pretty well. For me Rolex is just Rolex. It is like Nike Air Force 1.
Yes. Because there are plenty of shoes that are more luxurious, More expensive, And rarer than Air Force 1. You can go to a Louis Vuitton store and buy sneakers for two million won. But if you ask whether they have the same symbolic meaning or design perfection as the all-white Air Force 1 for 170, 000 won everyone knows the answer. I think it is like that. There are many more expensive watches in the world but nothing can match the symbolism of Rolex.
If you have the money and the vision I think it is good to buy one. As I mentioned earlier (see Part 1) I bought my Rolex with my entire savings. Of course everyone’s life and situation is different so I cannot say for sure. But from my perspective buying something like this is not just a simple act. For me it is more like a powerful ritual so if I buy a Rolex I cannot just sit at home. The power of these things is like that. It is the same with cars. No one buys a car and then just lies in bed thinking “now my life is a happy ending.” You want to show it off or you work to earn the money to pay for it or you try to become someone worthy of it.

First of all I welcome this new attempt. To use shoes as an example in the past you would buy a pair and wear them until the soles wore out. But now that is not the case. Shoes are valuable, They have to be clean and nice, And society recognizes you for your shoes. I think this kind of thing will expand more and more. It is a lifestyle we never imagined before. Hip-hop taught us this. I think it is a kind of ritual for people who believe their lives will go well. People who do not believe in themselves or think their lives will just stay the same would not care about million-won shoes. But people who think “something better will happen, ” “I am worth this much, ” or “if I wear this my life will get better” will be interested in shoes and watches too.
If you are rich but always look for cheap things because you want to save money I think you are forgetting the fact that you are wealthy. I want to remember and cherish this and keep finding confidence so I wear my Rolex every day.
