This is SILLIONS. In this edition I am not the main character. I asked friends who love watches which pieces from their collections they would like to introduce to VIVER Magazine readers. Four people responded.

When I was young many of us have experienced longing for things like the Lego knight's castle, Sailor Moon's magic wand, Tamiya mini cars or Voltron robots displayed behind the counter at the local stationery or fancy goods store. I too remember pestering my mother to buy me the Lego Space Shuttle Base (6339) jumping up and down without a care.
But such longing faded as time passed. One day I realized I had become an adult who worried about the boss at work and envied successful friends at reunions. Sometimes I felt sorry for myself as I sat in front of the TV at the end of the day with a can of beer. I always admired the idea of being a cool adult but the more I did the more I missed the childhood days when I was happy building Lego.
The deprivation I could not fully enjoy back then and the stress from society combined to create a desire for compensatory consumption. Still thinking I was an adult I became interested in more luxurious adult toys rather than buying Lego or mini cars. The biggest reason I was drawn to watches was that I could have them with me in every aspect of my life.

I started learning about watches online and the Omega Moonwatch Speedmaster Silver Snoopy 50th Anniversary caught my eye. The Speedmaster played a key role in NASA's space missions. In particular when Apollo 13's oxygen tank exploded on the way to the moon in 1970 and all electronic equipment failed the crew had to adjust their trajectory to return to Earth.
At that moment the Omega Speedmaster was used to precisely measure 14 seconds to ignite the engine and everyone returned safely. When I read about the Silver Snoopy Award Omega received to commemorate this my heart raced. It was as exciting as the Lego Space Shuttle Base I used to long for as a child. I was determined to buy it no matter what. However just as it takes effort to obtain something valuable Omega did not make it easy to purchase. Only those with high sales records could buy it and as an ordinary office worker I had no choice but to pay a 'premium' elsewhere.

Then by chance I discovered VIVER a platform specializing in watch transactions. I heard that VIVER had the Snoopy Edition which I could not even see at Omega boutiques. After confirming that VIVER had it in stock I headed straight to Apgujeong Rodeo. I thought it was much better to buy from a trustworthy place than to go through the hassle and emotional stress of personal transactions.
Arriving at VIVER with a pounding heart it felt like a fancy store for adults. It seemed as if all the world's finest watches were gathered there. While browsing I was captivated by the Rolex Daytona white dial just like when I watched Super Grand Prix as a child. But the price calmed me down and above all I did not want to betray the Snoopy Edition that brought me to VIVER. Soon after I walked out onto Apgujeong Rodeo Street with a white VIVER shopping bag. My steps felt light and I was overwhelmed with happiness. Reflecting my feelings Snoopy in a space suit was floating in the blue universe on my wrist. I wondered if this was how I would have felt if my mother had bought me the Lego Space Shuttle as a child.
Perhaps I would have been even happier with the pure heart of a boy. But does it really matter that I never felt this emotion back then? At least for this moment VIVER is my childhood stationery store and I am the boy proudly walking out with the Lego Space Shuttle Base.

'Resembling the Person I Want to Be'
Breguet Ref. 3330 White Gold

Ref. 3330 is a watch inspired by Breguet's pocket watch archives. That is why the arrangement of elements on the dial deviates from the layout of modern watches. My first impression was that it was very unfamiliar and that made it stylish. It was like seeing a harpsichord for the first time.

The white keys of the piano I knew were black and it looked special because it was different from what I thought should be white. But in fact that uniqueness was not new but closer to the origin. The unfamiliar dial layout made this watch look very special. When the sense of uniqueness faded the perfect symmetry and completeness of the design as a watch gave me great comfort. I think that is when I wanted to own this watch. Although the dial layout has a lot of empty space the perfect left-right symmetry balances what could be lost. The areas for reading the time and the calendar are filled with different guilloché patterns to enhance legibility in a sophisticated way. The thin movement based on the Frédéric Piguet Calibre 71 makes Breguet's iconic case more practical and beautiful.

To me the 3330 is a perfect and irreplaceable watch. It is perfect yet incomparable to other forms of perfection and is unique in itself, Much like the person I want to become.
We usually grow by taking someone as a role model. I cannot stand the asymmetry between the person I admire and who I am now. Like solving a complex equation I instinctively pursue symmetry. The 3330 is such a role model for me. I want to remind myself every time I check the time of what kind of person I want to be and what I desire.
Just as civilization has developed through human desire I face my own desire for growth.

'Why I Bought Four of the Same Watch'
Breguet Marine Ref. 5817

The watch I would like to introduce is the Breguet Marine 5817. I own four of these in different materials and colors and the reason I love them so much is their versatility.

Breguet is synonymous with classic style and this watch features the signature guilloché dial, Coin edge case and hand-engraved rotor while also having a sporty shape and performance (100m water resistance, Screw-down crown). Because it combines sportiness and classic elegance it suits any outfit. With a rubber strap it emphasizes sportiness and with a leather strap it highlights classic style.

The case diameter is also just right at 39mm. The lugs are rather long so the lug-to-lug length is 50mm which means it is not for those with thin wrists but if you meet this condition the rubber strap is designed to curve around the wrist for a comfortable fit.
You can also see Breguet's sense of design as the large date window at 6 o'clock creates a stable symmetry on the dial. Some may find it hard to understand why I bought four of the same watch but that is how much the Breguet 5817 is a watch that makes someone choose it four times.

'The Final Destination of My Watch Life'

At first I had a strong aversion to the Submariner. Even a brief look at watch communities shows that so many people own it and there are countless homage watches as well.
However after a friend's recommendation I visited the VIVER showroom and saw the Submariner for the first time. Comparing the old Ref. 114060 and even older Ref. 14060 with the new model I fell in love with the Submariner No Date Ref. 124060 which balances the quality of the new model with the slim lugs of the old. I was able to purchase it at VIVER under good conditions.

The design of the Submariner has not changed much since its release. Even among modern models the differences are so subtle that you can hardly tell unless you compare them side by side. Changes among the older models are also minimal. Because of this I believe that even if you buy the current model it will not fall behind the new one and it has its own strengths. That is why I felt less hesitation about spending a large sum compared to other watches.
Also the original aluminum bezel has been upgraded to a ceramic bezel so you can wear it without worrying about scratches in daily life. The brilliance of the ceramic bezel is also a big plus. The biggest satisfaction point is the Glidelock. Thanks to this you can adjust the size to your liking when your wrist size changes slightly between day and night without any tools. I have tried Tudor's T-Fit and Omega's micro-adjustment but Rolex's Glidelock still feels the most solid and reliable.

Another charm of the Submariner is that it goes well with almost any outfit in daily life. Other diver watches are too sporty to match with suits but the Submariner is often worn with formal attire so it does not feel out of place. Thanks to the ceramic bezel it even has a somewhat dressy look making it a perfect all-round watch.
Because of this I have sold all my other watches and now only wear the Submariner. This time I think I will be able to wear it for a long time without changing my mind.
