While watching a YouTube video about movement repairs, a thought occurred to me.
Considering the durability of each component, shouldn't they all be the same when using the best material?
That's what I thought.
In reality, there are differences in color depending on the part. I wonder if this is just a difference in paint even though it is the same material, or if it is for another reason.

First, I think it would be good to find out what materials are used in the parts of the watch.
Main material that occupies a large area of the main plate, bridge, etc.: German Silver (German Silver)
Wheel: The yellow part is made of copper, and the axle is made of steel. If all gears are made of steel, machining is difficult.
Ruby (artificial gemstone): Reduces wear and tear on parts that come into contact with parts.
The reason why German silver is used for the main plate is that it is easy to process, such as drilling or cutting holes, and its color does not change easily. In the past, there were movements made of copper material, but these tend to discolor a lot. The reason why rubies are used in the running process of a watch is because the artificial gem is harder than metal, so it does not wear easily and prevents the lubricant from drying out or further damaging the plate. If the same material is used for all parts, they will wear out at the same time and all parts must be replaced. Therefore, parts with different strengths and hardnesses are used to replace only damaged parts.
