On October 14, 1947, Air Force Captain Chuck Yeager became the first human to travel faster than the speed of sound when he flew his Bell X-1 experimental airplane over the Mojave Desert at Mach 1. General Jaeger is known to have worn a Rolex watch at the time, and in 1947, he is known to have worn a Rolex Oyster Perpetual wristwatch. He was so impressed by the watch's durability that a few years after the event, Jaeger sent an autographed image of himself and the Bell there is.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Chuck Yeager's achievements, Japanese vintage specialist The Real McCoy's commissions a Chuck Yeager edition directly from Rolex.
